Marriage
At Wildwind, strengthening and preserving marriages is a top priority. Churches cannot be healthy if marriages are not healthy. We believe bad marriages can become good marriages. We know how much work that can sometimes take, and we are here to support you and fight for your marriage, even when you go through times when you think you're too tired to fight anymore.Wildwind makes every effort to strengthen marriages, from our I Promise marriage enrichment course to requiring all couples getting married at Wildwind to undergo 6-7 weeks of intensive pre-marital counseling in preparation for their lives together. We even see our Good Sense financial course as a way to invest in marriages, because if we can help a couple get their financial lives under control, we can eliminate one of the main causes of divorce. Small groups are a key aspect of our ministry, and connection to a small group provides couples with critical resources: social support; help with childcare; education on parenting, spiritual, marital, and other issues; and the helping hand that is always needed in times of crisis and loss. We support all of these things with sermon series about twice a year that deal with marriages and romantic relationships.
Why do so many marriages not survive? The simple answer is because couples either do not get the help they need, or they wait until it is too late. A time comes when it's too late for help, and that time is when both partners are so hurt and angry and resentful that they no longer wish to fight for the marriage. Key to saving a marriage is getting help well before this time comes, so we focus in our sermons and classes on helping you know when you need to seek help. We also deal with how a spouse who is willing to get help can deal with a spouse who is less willing.
There are many places in the world where couples can go to be told that not every marriage can be saved and where they will be encouraged to pursue their own "happiness" at any cost. Though it's true that not all marriages can be saved, we also believe all marriages are worth a shot and that we should do everything we can, and more, before letting one go. If you want to be in an environment that values marriage, values your role and responsibility in marriage, and will walk with you through every challenge marriage presents (and celebrate with you in the good times!), Wildwind may be a place worth checking out.
