Adult Ministries

We believe there are three things that need to happen with every age group at Wildwind.  They must be able to connect to the church and to their peers; they must have opportunities to grow in their faith; and they must have opportunities to serve.  Below you will find the opportunities that are available at Wildwind for doing each of the above.

Opportunities to connect to the church
Wildwind e-list
If you are interested in Wildwind at all, you will probably want to subscribe to our e-list.  When you first subscribe you will receive a series of emails from Pastor Dave that will introduce you to the church and give you some ideas on how to connect.  You can respond to any of these emails at any time and Pastor Dave will email you back personally.

Discovery class
If you are new to Wildwind, or if you've been around for a while but have not taken Discovery, you might consider making this priority #1.  Discovery will not only help you learn what the church is all about, but it will also give you a chance to meet a few other adults, including our pastor, in a smaller setting.

Opportunities to connect to peers
Quarterly events
These are all-church social events simply designed to get people together.  In this setting it will be easy and natural for a few conversations to be had and a few introductions to get made.

Small groups
Currently our best way of making connections with other adults, these are groups of four to twelve that meet weekly in homes.  Check out our small group opportunities.

Opportunities to grow in faith
Weekly service
Wildwind is a teaching church and we emphasize our weekly service heavily.  Service is not simply a formality, but a great opportunity.  At our weekly services, you will be taught, challenged, and inspired to take bold new steps in your faith journey.  We encourage consistent attendance, as sermons are usually delivered in series.  We also encourage people to listen to sermons online, download them, burn CD's, and even give them away to friends and family.

Quarterly classes
Quarterly classes are a new program we are starting this year.  The purpose of the classes will be to do some in-depth teaching on a specific topic (usually lasting four-eight weeks).  You will learn and grow, but classes will also be yet another connecting opportunity where you will meet other adults and possibly make some friends.

Spiritual formation groups
The purpose of spiritual formation groups is to teach/train people to follow the teachings of Jesus across all areas of their lives.  These groups are where people will learn to live free from anger, judgment, greed, lust, pride, bad habits, lack of self-control, and many other things that drag us down every day.

Opportunities to Serve
thecommon.org
thecommon.org is a website where our people can become members and then post needs they may have to a Wildwind section of the site.  You can also fill out a profile indicating your abilities and interests and when a need becomes available that requires a skill you have, you will receive a notification.  This will be an excellent way to connect people at Wildwind who are in need to others at Wildwind who have the passions and skills necessary to meet those needs. Learn more here.

Sparks of Service
Wildwind makes serving opportunities available on a regular basis, and they will fall under the name Sparks of Service.  These will range from small home repair projects to large-scale food and clothing distribution events.

General

Q. How do I learn more about Wildwind?
A.
You'll probably want to sign up for Discovery.

Small Groups

Q. My last church didn't teach anything about being in a small group.  Why does Wildwind encourage it so much?
A. Wildwind encourages all our people to be in a small group because people can be impressed from a distance, but they can only be impacted from up close.  The Sunday morning service can inspire you, get you pumped up, and teach you some important things, but it cannot replace a network of personal relationships.

As Wildwind gets larger it will naturally become more difficult to connect with others and build relationships.  Small group participation will assure that every person has the opportunity to have a network of friends to share life's journey with.

If after this explanation you still do not understand why it is so important, that is because you have probably never been part of an effective small group before.  All we ask is that you give it a try.  Everyone who has ever joined a group has been nervous at first -- that is a natural feeling.  But everyone who has ever done it has also understood very quickly why we encourage it so much!

Q. What if I am not growing spiritually?
A.

All of us experience seasons of decelerated spiritual growth. That’s how the Christian life works. It’s while going through those chapters in your life that you need the support and accountability of your small group more than ever.
